Does Claude watermark text? Yes. Here’s the remover.
Anthropic weaves an invisible watermark into Claude’s output and it travels with copy-paste. Paste your draft below: we strip what can be stripped mechanically, then rewrite the wording so the statistical signal breaks too.
The short answer
Does Claude watermark text? Yes, two ways.
Anthropic signed the EU AI Act’s transparency code, and Claude models launched from 2 August 2026 mark their output at generation time. There are two separate mechanisms, and they solve different problems.
Text gets an embedded watermark. A pattern based on Google DeepMind’s SynthID-Text approach is woven into the token choices as Claude writes. It’s imperceptible, doesn’t change meaning or quality, and travels with copy and paste because it lives in the words, not in a file.
Files get signed provenance metadata. When Claude produces a .png, .jpg or .svg, it attaches a C2PA content credential: a small signed note saying Claude was involved. That’s a different, visible-in-metadata mechanism, unrelated to the text watermark.
Where the Claude ai watermark applies
- Copy and pasteSurvives
- Moving between appsSurvives
- Changing a few wordsOften survives
- Translation (Claude chooses every word)Survives
- Proofreading only, light editsWeak or none
- Heavy editing, paraphrasing, full rewriteMay not survive

The other mechanism
Strip the content credential from a Claude file
The rewrite above breaks the text watermark. It can’t touch a C2PA content credential, because that one isn’t in the words — it’s a signed note attached to the file itself. This removes it, along with EXIF, XMP and IPTC.
Remove a C2PA content credential
The text watermark is in the wording, so the rewrite above handles it. A file’s content credential is in its metadata, so it needs stripping instead. Drop a Claude image, PDF or document here.
Remove Claude watermark
A claude ai watermark remover needs two layers
Anthropic is explicit about what breaks the mark: heavy editing, paraphrasing, or translation can leave it undetectable, but light edits usually don’t. Swapping a handful of words changes nothing, because the signal is spread across nearly every sentence.
Strip hidden characters
Narrow no-break spaces and other invisible Unicode sometimes riding along in copied text come out first. This changes nothing you can see.
Rewrite every sentence
The only thing that reliably breaks the statistical signal, per Anthropic’s own wording, is heavy editing or paraphrasing, so that’s what runs next instead of a synonym swap.
Score before you copy
A human score tells you where the rewrite landed, so you’re not guessing before you paste it somewhere that matters.

What a watermark actually proves
A detected mark is a signal, not proof of authorship
It tells you Claude was likely involved at some point. It doesn’t mean Claude wrote it from scratch. People use Claude to proofread, translate, and summarize other people’s text, and the output can still carry a mark. It also can’t confirm the content wasn’t changed after Claude touched it.
No detected mark doesn’t mean it’s human-written
Older models, heavy edits, very short passages, stripped file metadata, and factual or code-heavy text (where there’s no real word choice to mark) can all leave no readable signal, watermarked or not.
Which Claude models carry a watermark?
Does Claude 3.5 have a watermark? Not at launch. It predates the transparency commitment. Anthropic is bringing older models in during a transition period.
Is there a claude watermark detector?
Not a public one yet. Anthropic says it will support users and third parties in detecting its marks and will publish a watermark detection API, but that isn’t out. Third-party AI detectors, such as Pangram, work differently. They read stylistic tells in the writing, not the watermark’s key, so a clean detector score and a watermark-free draft are not the same thing.
